Today's Class and Tonight's Homework - 06/02/15

AGENDA
1.) Table Talk Warm-Up:  Share your vocabulary paragraphs with your group.
2.) Turn in vocab paragraphs
3.) Art Response Assignment (see below)
4.) Agenda Books

HOMEWORK
1.) Finish your art recreation and your descriptive words (you MUST have a ton of SPARKLE words/phrases)
2.) Continue reading up to the end of the third marking period (pg. 137) in Speak

ART RESPONSE ASSIGNMENT
Supplies Needed:
~ Your printed painting (last night's homework)
~ A piece of blank white drawing paper
~ Blank lined paper from journal section of binder
~ Coloring supplies

Assignment Procedure:
~ Using the picture as a reference point, recreate it to your best ability on the blank white piece of paper.

~ Next, label your picture using descriptive words and phrases (colors, textures, etc.).  I want to see SPARKLE words and phrases, so labels like "good use of color" or "kinda bumpy" aren't going to work.  If you need to consult the thesaurus, you may do so (either text form or online form - with permission)

~ Using your list of descriptive words and phrases, write a 300 word (minimum) to 600 word (maximum) describing the art work you selected.  Spend some time addressing what the artist may have been feeling and/or why they painted this in this manner.  What is the painter trying to say?  Make sure you include the artist AND the title of the artwork in the topic sentence.

4.) Read all of the third marking period in Speak by Thursday, 06/04/15

VOCABULARY PARAGRAPH
Using your ten (10) teacher directed words from the Word Attack assignment, please write a paragraph.  This paragraph must use all of the words in context (without directly saying what the words mean), and all of the words must be underlined.  This assignment can be on whatever topic you want (it doesn't have to be related to the book) and it can take the form of a journal entry, a newspaper article, a diary entry, etc.  Use your imagination for that!

PAINTING ASSIGNMENT

3.) PRINT THAT IMAGE OUT! (either at home or in school DURING HOMEROOM)
